Xiaotong Guo
Born in a small city in eastern China and now based in Savannah, Georgia, Xiaotong Guo embarked on her jewelry journey at the Savannah College of Art and Design, where she completed her Master’s degree. Xiaotong views jewelry as a multilayered, unrestricted, and borderless language through which to communicate with others. She uses silver, oyster shells, wood, and pearls to make work that pushes against standards of perfection; in the artist’s words, “my experiences with nature have proven that imperfections are all around me . . . and they are beautiful.” Through her jewelry, she cultivates the beauty in these imperfections, evoking a connection with nature through the careful incorporation of discarded or abandoned natural objects.
