Min-Ling Hsieh
A Taiwanese artist based in Taipei, Min-Ling Hsieh majored in sculpture and later studied contemporary jewelry in Germany. Her jewelry conveys Eastern philosophical thought, including the philosophy of nonexistence, through its lightness, stark forms, and relationship to the space around it. She works primarily with jade, which she combines with heavily perforated silver. Her process is one of subtraction, by which the cold, hard metal becomes increasingly lighter. This approach allows the artist to settle her mind, a necessary condition of quality production, while generating an inner strength, which she seeks to impart through her jewelry.
