A designer based in Brussels, Belgium, Isabelle Azaïs is interested in the question of value. In light of environmental pollution, human rights abuses, and the endless exploitation of mineral wealth, she views waste as the material resource of the future. To make her jewelry, she collects recycled plastic in the streets of her home city. Through the mastery of heat, she is able to cut, weld, shape, and stretch the plastic. Inspired by corals and underwater life forms, the resulting pieces are voluminous yet extremely lightweight, ideal for wearing on the body.
