Daphne Krinos
Born in Greece, Daphne Krinos moved to London to study jewelry design and has since become one of the best-known studio jewelers in the United Kingdom. She has lived in cities all her life, and this is evident in her bold graphic jewelry, which reflects an interest in manmade structures—metal fences, scaffolding, buildings in various stages of development or decay—as well as street art and early animation. Other inspirations include the photography of Bernd and Hilla Becher and the sculptures of Donald Judd. Metal is her language: mostly dark oxidized silver but also recycled gold, with its hue reminiscent of the colors of summer in Greece. She often uses translucent semiprecious stones, sometimes with a slightly unusual cut or shape.
