Studio Sunday Participants at Work

On the first Sunday of the month, join a professional artist to explore the galleries followed by a hands on workshop inspired by the objects in the exhibition.  This program is suitable for ages 6 and up.  At MAD, our goal is to make everyone feel comfortable and enthusiastic about the opportunity to learn through their hands while having a good time together in our galleries and studio.

The Charcoal Revelations

Join Nakeisha Gumbs for a workshop that explores the depths of charcoal.  We will delve beyond the surface and the ubiquity of paper, to create a picture that tells a thousand stories.  Limited to the use of only an erasure, we will reveal detailed illustrations imitating the subtractive process that contemporary artist Jim Dingilian is best known for.  We will explore Swept Away to decipher Dingilian’s unusual material and how he simulates a photograph’s ability to capture fleeting moments in time.  Come discover how Dingilian captures a memory in a bottle.

Please review our health and safety protocols before you arrive. MAD strongly recommends all visitors six months and older are vaccinated against Covid-19 and visitors ages two and up wear face coverings, even if vaccinated. Thank you for your cooperation.
