SOFA

SOFA NEW YORK 2012—the International Exposition of Sculpture Objects and Functional Art at the Park Avenue Armory—is fast approaching. Please save-the-date of to join us for the Opening Night Gala Preview at SOFA NEW YORK on Thursday, April 19, 2012.  This year, for the first time, the private MAD VIP Cocktail Lounge will be in the exhibition hall itself.  You will be able to conveniently drop in and out throughout the night while enjoying cocktails and hors d’oeuvres with MAD’s trustees, patrons, and friends beginning 5pm to 9pm.

In celebration of SOFA NEW YORK’s 15th Anniversary at the Park Avenue Armory, architect David Ling will be reinvigorating the design and aesthetics of the exhibition hall by installing a visually illuminated entrance tunnel to access the galleries.  Among the 50+ galleries, MAD will also have a booth that ties into our current show Swept Away: Dust, Ashes, and Dirt in Contemporary Art and Design and will feature a live installation of sand art by Joe Mangrum.  Mangrum has also been commissioned to create a sidewalk sand painting later this spring that surrounds the entire island on which MAD stands.

MAD Chief Curator David McFadden, MAD curators Ursula Neuman and Jennifer Scanlan, and curator and critic William Warmus will also be leading discussions, giving tours, and lecturing.
