2006, Dir. Sophie Fiennes With Slavoj Žižek 150 min, Digital Projection
A film about cinema itself, The Pervert’s Guide to Cinema teams iconic Slovenian philosopher and critical theorist Slavoj Žižek with director/producer Sophie Fiennes to create a unique exploration of what movies can tell us about us. Placing himself within scenes of classic films, including Hitchcock’s Vertigo, Marx Brothers’ Monkey Business, Ridley Scott’s Alien, and The Matrix, Žižek applies a psychoanalytical approach to some the medium’s most influential creations. Turning the form of cinema onto itself, Žižek reveals the power cinema has on shaping our desires and dreams.
