MAD’s Van Lier Fellow Jes Fan guides visitors through the process of casting glycerin molds. Visitors will learn about creating molds and casting objects, with the opportunity to cast their own glycerin shapes with a partner. In addition, they will gain insight into the artist’s approach to working with materials to understand “otherness” and how materials can be manipulated to convey meaning and express ideas. While the glycerin sets up, visitors are encouraged to explore the Museum and look for other instances where molds were used by artists. The finished glycerin molds will be installed on the 6th floor as miniature sculptures representing the personalities of all the participants and will remain on view for museumgoers through November.
