Family Day offers countless opportunities for children to create, learn, and explore. The MAD’s Galleries, Open Studios, workshops, and theater are the perfect place to spend a day discovering art, meeting artists, watching films—and being creative. Begin your exploration in the galleries discovering The Global Africa Project as it charts new territory on the impact of African visual culture on contemporary art, craft and design around the world through works ranging from ceramics, textiles, jewelry, furniture, fashion, to sculpture, painting, photography, and architecture.

With breathtaking views of Central Park that will inspire children and adults alike, Artist Educators will assist families in their exploration of materials and creativity during hands-on workshops; New voices and stories will be told in the fun and smart short films shown in the Public Programs room; A chance to meet and work with one of our Open Studio Artists will be waiting; And a unique intergenerational movement workshop will be led by members of the National Dance Institute (NDI).
NDI a model program that exposes thousands of school children to the magic and discipline of dance was founded by Jacques d’Amboise in 1976. While still a principal dancer at the New York City Ballet, Mr. D’Amboise established the National Dance Institute in the belief that the arts have a unique power to engage and motivate individuals towards excellence.

Family Day will be a whirlwind of creativity, laughter, invention, and fun! Bring family and friends and JOIN IN!!
