German artist Julika Rudelius forms a social reception at which professional orators from a range of backgrounds will be placed. Hailing from a variety of backgrounds, from Scientology to Wall Street motivational speakers, each of these speakers engages the audience on the same subject: the pursuit of happiness.
Addressing capitalism as a faith formed through collective belief systems, be they religious, neoliberal, new age, or otherwise, Believe gives its invited speakers an opportunity to reach audiences they don’t normally access. Simultaneously, the performance confronts the use of theatrical performance in crafting successful arguments in political, religious, and cultural spheres.
