Jewelry Design DNA
Four of today’s top contemporary jewel artists, including Robert Lee Morris, Bruce Metcalf, Giorgio Vigna, Gail Bird, and Iris Nieuwenberg, join together in the theater at MAD to explore the effects of globalization on personal vision.

With studio jewelry being produced on every continent, are there still any characteristics that artists inherit through their national origins? Are there attributes of American jewelry design that differ from those in Europe or Asia? Can training programs indoctrinate jewelry artists in a design process that reduces or liberates their originality?

These inspirational artists explore these topics and more as they outline their starting points, use of conventional and unconventional materials, as well as developing of techniques that are wholly the artist’s own.

The panel will be moderated by MAD jewelry curator Ursula Ilse-Neuman.
