Design Happy Hour: Pendant Necklaces

Wed, May 27 / 5:30–6:30 pm ET

Grab a drink and drop in for our virtual Design Happy Hour! Metalsmiths Brice Garrett and Sasha Nixon will join us from their home studios for a lively 45-minute demonstration of jewelry design using simple jeweler’s tools. Pose questions as you observe Brice and Sasha at work crafting pendants set with stones and found objects.

The pair will demonstrate with items readily available for purchase online after the demonstration.  Links for each item used will be sent to all registered participants.

A MAD Artist Studios alum, Brice Garrett uses materials and objects as a source to work through ideas of preciousness, memory, and value. Traditionally trained as a jeweler and metalsmith, his work ranges across disciplines, culminating in wearables, sculptures, installations, and participatory projects. Brice received his MFA from Konstfack University College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm, Sweden and a BA from San Diego State University. He has been the recipient of multiple awards and residencies, including from Queens Council on the Arts, NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, Center for Craft, Manhattan Graphic Center, and most recently Tides Institute & Museum of Art. His work has been exhibited across Europe and the United States.

A member of the Museum’s exhibitions department, Sasha Nixon is an independent curator, jewelry historian, and metalsmith. A critic for the Jewelry+Metals department at the Rhode Island School of Design, Sasha teaches mount-making at Brooklyn Metal Works. Awarded the 2017 Society of North American Goldsmith's Emerging Curator's Grant, she has curated and designed exhibitions, mounted artwork for, and given lectures at some of New York City’s leading institutions and contributes regularly to Metalsmith magazine, maintaining her own jewelry practice out of her Brooklyn studio.
