Discover the exhibition Sterling Ruby: Ceramics through the lens of Artist Studios resident Monika Zarzeczna, who will use her experience and perspective as an artist as both a guide and a point of departure.

A mixed-media and installation artist, Zarzeczna will lead visitors to closely consider works on view in Sterling Ruby: Ceramics. Zarzeczna’s sculptural works stem from the concept of transition—of objects having lost their original function due to time, damage, or obsolescence—exploring the liminal space between the known and the unknown. Similarly, Ruby uses clay that has been rolled, punched, and manipulated to arrive at vessel-like containers that hold the accumulated debris of previous kiln misfires—an exploration of time, damage, and function.

At the conclusion of the tour, participants will be invited to visit Zarzeczna’s studio at MAD.
