AIGA NY: Women of Type

Thu, Apr 13, 2023

Join us for a conversation between Jess Goldsmith, founder of Women of Type, an online community dedicated to amplifying the work of female and nonbinary typographers, and Woman of Type editor,  Artavia Jarvis.  Goldsmith and Jarvis will discuss how to build a digital space into an IRL community fostering artists from across the world.

Co-presented with the Museum of Arts and Design, this program is part of AIGA NY’s Fresh Dialogue event series focusing on current events, issues of cultural relevance, and emerging topics in the design world.

Jess Goldsmith (she/her) is an award-winning multidisciplinary creative in Brooklyn, New York. She is the owner and author of Women of Type, which started as a small passion project in May of 2020 and has now grown into something much larger and community driven. Outside of running WoT, Jess is known for her illustration, lettering work, modeling, and graphic design. Clients include Microsoft, Hulu, Amazon, Adobe, Stella Artois, and select nonprofits.

Artavia Jarvis (she/her) is an author and book critic from New York City. She is well known for her book reviews on Instagram and BookTok. Her mission is to educate and encourage readers to diversify their bookshelves with writing by women of color while creating a warm community online.
