Girvan makes observations while walking along the shores and headlands of Orkney, gathering ideas for the colors, compositions, and textures found in her jewelry. The ever-changing color of the sea, the hidden shoreline treasures, the comforting surface of a wave-worn pebble, the rock pools, and the shifting patterns in the sand all inform her designs. Beachcombing allows her to bring some of that inspiration into the studio, and the collected objects are often incorporated into her pieces.
