Installation view of ‘Studio Job MAD HOUSE’, 2016.

Unpack the processes involved in creating good design, in a variety of media, and the many formats design can be explored in the art classroom in this day-long professional development workshop. MAD's artist educators will lead participating teachers on tours of the exhibitions Studio Job: MAD HOUSE, Eye for Design, and Atmosphere for Enjoyment: Harry Bertoia's Environment for Sound.

Dr. Elissa Auther, Windgate Research and Collections Curator and Samantha DeTillio, Assistant Curator, will give a keynote speech that highlights themes from the exhibition Eye for Design and illustrates MADs unique history and vision through the strikingly beautiful and creatively designed catalogues the Museum produced between the 1950s and 1970s.

Additionally, an afternoon hands-on workshop will explore working with wood veneer to create two-dimensional compositions that incorporate themes related to the exhibitions. During the workshop, we will discuss methods for incorporating similar processes in art classrooms as well as curricula connections that can be made to other subject areas.

Please review our health and safety protocols before you arrive. MAD strongly recommends all visitors six months and older are vaccinated against Covid-19 and visitors ages two and up wear face coverings, even if vaccinated. Thank you for your cooperation.
