The Future Weirdis a series dedicated to speculative, experimental and weird film by directors from Africa and the Global South. Each thematically organized screening draws on a range of materials, including commercials, music videos, newsreels, and colonial archives to frame films which imagine the future from non-European perspectives. We invite physical and digital communities into a cinematic laboratory to disturb science-fiction clichés and think collectively about queer space, brown futures and the black fantastic. The series is curated by Derica Shields and Megan Eardley.
