Sales Floor Associate


The Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) seeks a reliable and people-oriented Sales Floor Associate to join The Store at MAD. This is a seasonal/part-time position at 21 hours per week through December 2021. This is a retail position and as such, requires flexibility to work a retail schedule, including weekends, some evenings, holidays and special events as needed.

This position reports to the Store Operations Manager and works collaboratively with colleagues across the Museum.

As part of The Store at MAD’s team, the Sales Floor Associate is responsible for delivering a knowledgeable, thoughtful and inspiring customer service experience which plays an integral role in achieving the store’s sales goals.

  • Welcoming and assisting customers with their purchase selections in a friendly and professional manner, in order to generate and maximize sales
  • Providing accurate artist and product information about the products presented
  • Ability to sell a wide range of price-points and merchandise
  • Accurately executing various sales and register transactions on the POS system, including ringing purchases, processing of cash or credit card payments and counting money
  • Re-stocking of product and packaging materials
  • Maintaining knowledge of current sales and promotions ensuring they are properly communicated to the customer
  • Maintaining high standards of store cleanliness including display shelves and jewelry cases
  • Support Inventory Manager as needed with:
  • Receiving and unpacking incoming shipments.
  • Checking packing slips against purchase orders for discrepancies
  • Entering purchase orders and invoices into the Runit operating system with full SKU, product description and pricing information
  • Checking in and receiving Moderately-priced jewelry and wearable purchase inventory as directed by the Assistant buyer
  • Supporting the Fine Jewelry Buyer in meticulously controlling all RE:FINE orders
  • Support eCommerce Manager as needed with:
  • Assisting with processing web orders including pulling, wrapping and processing the shipment through carrier pick-up ensuring that a receipt is included in the package.
  • Assisting with packing and gift-wrapping products as needed.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned


  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, weekends and evenings
  • Prior professional retail sales experience, preferably in handling of high-value merchandise or relevant experience with proven results
  • A professional, warm, and positive attitude, coupled with strong customer service, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills to communicate skillfully with a wide range of customers
  • Interest and/or knowledge of the arts, especially art, craft, and design, with an eagerness to learn about MAD’s collection and current special exhibitions as well as its history, mission, and programming, and the ability to speak with enthusiasm about the exhibitions.
  • Tech savvy; fluency and comfort using POS systems
  • Highly motivated to drive revenue
  • Outstanding written and verbal communications skills
  • Excellent comprehension of general sales procedures and store opening and closing procedures
  • While performing the duties of this job, the Sales Floor Associate is required to stand, handle objects (up to 15lbs), climb or balance; stoop and kneel.
  • MAD requires that all team members working on the premises must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
