This full-day professional development workshop will focus on the exhibition Too Fast to Live, Too Young to Die: Punk Graphics, 1976-1986. Join keynote speaker Julia Gorton for an insider’s perspective on the New York punk scene in the 1970s and 1980s with a focus on her own photographic and design work from the period. After time spent in the galleries, teachers are invited to delve into the cut-and paste, DIY graphic style of punk during a zine-making workshop with MAD Fellow Tamara Santibañez, gathering inspiration for classroom projects.
Teachers' Professional Development at the Museum of Arts and Design complements and expands upon educators' existing knowledge of contemporary art, craft, and design. Led by artists, curators, and museum educators, participatory workshops are designed to help K-12 educators discover creative ways of interpreting and presenting fundamental concepts in all subject areas, using art, craft, and design as a bridge for comprehension.Teacher workshops take place during district-wide professional development days in New York City. MAD also offers custom-designed workshops for individual schools or districts.
