Hexaflexagons

Thu, Mar 31, 2016

Artist Annie Render Stephens, from the EFA Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop, will take over The Print Shop for an evening demonstration on the printing and construction of hexaflexagons. Equal parts origami, geometry and magic trick, these flat models can be folded or flexed to expose hidden faces, giving them the ability to both conceal and reveal themselves. An interdisciplinary printmaker moving among 2D, 3D and time-based pieces, Render Stephens often engages with the idea of shape-shifting in her work, creating scenarios in which subjects are obfuscated or disguised. With its ability to conceal and reveal sides, the hexaflexagon is a form disrupting itself. For the demonstration, the artist will be screen-printing templates and guiding participants in constructing these models. Visitors are welcome to take their completed hexaflexagons home.

Please review our health and safety protocols before you arrive. MAD strongly recommends all visitors six months and older are vaccinated against Covid-19 and visitors ages two and up wear face coverings, even if vaccinated. Thank you for your cooperation.
