Palm Leaf Clutch Necklaces

Sat, Nov 14 / 1 pm

In recent years, new processes have been refined to allow for the recycling of fallen palm leaves into hard and sturdy material with which to create dinnerware, sheets, and other plate-like raw material.  A unique form of hard fiber, having a consistency similar to a smooth lightwood, these palm leaf plates are opening up new, sustainable possibilities with which to make a plethora of objects across the design spectrum.

Join MAD, and jewelry artist Debra Rapoport, for this afternoon-long, hands-on workshop in creating a clutch necklace from recycled palm leaves.  Using cloth gussets, a "horse tail" twisted long handle, and a variety of embellishments, students will have the chance to create their very own accessory from this unique material, one that allows the maker to be not only fashionable, but eco-friendly.

All materials provided.  No previous experience necessary.

Please review our health and safety protocols before you arrive. MAD strongly recommends all visitors six months and older are vaccinated against Covid-19 and visitors ages two and up wear face coverings, even if vaccinated. Thank you for your cooperation.
