Amy Lemaire

2015 Artist In Residence

Amy Lemaire

Amy Lemaire uses glass to simulate precious and semiprecious materials to explore the history of commerce, currency systems and international relationships through glass jewelry and wearable sculpture. Lemaire views beads as an actualization of value through which cultural and social currency is constantly negotiated.

At MAD, Lemaire is working on the fabrication of several large glass necklaces using techniques such as carving, grinding, texturizing, polishing and constructing.  She views arriving at her compositions like solving a puzzle, altering pieces so that everything fits together perfectly.

Lemaire received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and her MFA from Pratt Institute. She is an adjunct professor at Salem Community College, is currently the Director of the Bead Project at Urban Glass in Brooklyn, and exhibits her work nationally.
