Studio Sunday with Artist Nakeisha Gumbs

Hand Printing Iconic Motifs

Sun, Jan 8, 2012

Join Nakeisha Gumbs for a workshop devoted to printing by hand! We will visit MAD’s main exhibition, Crafting Modernism, through a scavenger hunt, we will search, locate and discover how artists and craftsmen across various cultures, use different techniques of printing, and reveal the ways some artists incorporated their own cultural perspectives into the design of their work.  Employing the elements and principles of design to blend ancient cultural symbols with contemporary motifs, we will draw and hand-carve shapes and blocks, to create their own poster art or patterned wall hangings inspired by cross cultural influences

On the first Sunday of the month, join a professional artist to explore the galleries followed by a hands on workshop inspired by the objects in the exhibition.  This program is suitable for ages 6 and up. At MAD, our goal is to make everyone feel comfortable and enthusiastic about the opportunity to learn through their hands while having a good time together in our galleries and studio. Drop in allowed, registration is highly encouraged.

Please review our health and safety protocols before you arrive. MAD strongly recommends all visitors six months and older are vaccinated against Covid-19 and visitors ages two and up wear face coverings, even if vaccinated. Thank you for your cooperation.
