Studio Sunday

Sun, Nov 4 / 2 pm

Studio Sunday Participants at Work

Due to the aftermath of hurricane Sandy, this program has been canceled.

On the first Sunday of the month, join a professional artist to explore the galleries followed by a hands on workshop inspired by the objects in the exhibition.  This program is suitable for ages 6 and up.  At MAD, our goal is to make everyone feel comfortable and enthusiastic about the opportunity to learn through their hands while having a good time together in our galleries and studio.

A Box Full of Memories

This Studio Sunday will focus on memories -- whether they are from childhood, of important events or fictional ones. We will look at works of art from current exhibitions at MAD that evoke memories. The inquiry-based discussion will address questions such as: How do art objects or non-objects trigger memory? Do we use all our senses when we think of memories? Which senses are most prominent when it comes to tapping into the past? We will focus on the participants' peronal definitions of memory. During the hands-on workshop, each participant will produce a bricolage of memories (or one memory) in a small box. The materials will include, but are not limited to: textiles, yarn, ribbons, feathers, paint, clay and metal. All materials are provided, but participants are welcome to bring small items that they would like to incorporate in their memory box.

Please note Day Light Savings time ends on November 4th please be sure to set your clocks back.

Please review our health and safety protocols before you arrive. MAD strongly recommends all visitors six months and older are vaccinated against Covid-19 and visitors ages two and up wear face coverings, even if vaccinated. Thank you for your cooperation.
