MUSEUM OF ARTS & DESIGN COMMISSIONS WINE FROM MIONETTO WINES OF ITALY FOR GLASS EXHIBITION

September 1, New York…The Museum of Arts & Design has commissioned a limited collector's edition wine from Mionetto Wines to celebrate the new exhibition Venetian Glass: 20th-Century Italian Glass from the Olnick Spanu Collection. A distinctive typographic label was designed by the internationally noted architect/design team of Massimo and Lella Vignelli to complement the curved black Sergio Mionetto signature bottle. The graceful vessel holds Mionetto's Prosecco wine, a full sparkling dry white wine grown in close proximity to the fabled Venetian glass works of the island of Murano near Venice.

The Sergio Limited Edition "Venetian Glass" wine formula is based on one handed down from Francesco Mionetto, who founded the firm in 1887. A combination of two old grape varieties unique to the region of Veneto, Italy, blended with the area's finest Prosecco grapes, yield a dry, crisp, slightly fruity wine.

"Sparkling Prosecco is the trademark of Italy's Veneto region, and this bottle of 'Sergio' Extra Dry is one of our finest," says Enore Ceola of Mionetto USA.

The wine will be served at the exhibition's opening festivities on Tuesday, September 12 at the Museum of Arts & Design's private party for members and guests. Sergio Limited Edition "Venetian Glass" wine will be available for sale exclusively at Astor Wines and Liquors at 12 Astor Place in Manhattan (212-674-7500) and is priced at $120 per case of six bottles. Part of the proceeds of each bottle sold will benefit the Museum's educational programs.

The bottle design and its contents embody the union of craft, design and good taste that is the foundation of the glassmaker's and the vintner's arts. The Museum of Arts & Design, in addition to collecting and exhibiting fine works of craft from around the world, is a foremost resource center for information and education concerning crafts in all media. The Museum's public programs include lectures, workshops, study groups, tours and teacher training. The Museum works closely with the New York City Board of Education to bring the joy of fine art to the classroom and to assist professional development of teachers in the field.
