Visitor Policies:
Food and drinks are not allowed in the galleries.
• Photography and videotaping, including in the lobby, are not permitted.
• With the exception of the Audio Tour, cellular phone use is not permitted in the galleries or theater.
• Backpacks and bags larger than backpacks and all umbrellas must be checked.  No luggage is permitted.
• All bags are subject to inspection.
• Only small, collapsible umbrella-style strollers can be accommodated on the gallery floors.
• Children must be supervised at all times.
• Sketching is permitted only in pencil and only on paper that is 11" x 14" or smaller.  No easels are permitted.

Visitor Amenities:
• Public restrooms and coat check are available on the Theater (T) level.
• All galleries and restrooms are wheelchair accessible.
• Wheelchairs are available free of charge but must be reserved 24 hours in advance by contacting the Visitor Services Center at 212.299.7717 or emailing visitorservices@madmuseum.org

Q: Is the Museum wheelchair accessible?
A: Yes, the Museum of Arts and Design is wheelchair accessible to all galleries and restrooms. Wheelchairs are available free of charge but must be reserved 24 hours in advance by contacting the Visitor Services Center at 212.299.7717 or emailing visitorservices@madmuseum.org.

Q: How do I donate or see if the Museum is interested in purchasing works of art from my collection?
A: In order for the Museum to consider the work, please send a digital image of your artwork, a letter indicating your intention to offer the work as a gift or for sale, along with detailed object information (artist, artist's dates, title, work date, process, dimensions, edition #, insurance value). The Museum will be in contact with you if interested in the work.

Q: I am an artist. How can I submit my portfolio for review by the Museum staff?
A: If you would like to submit work, please do so digitally. Include your resume, a selection of digital images of your work, and an artist's statement, if available. We cannot accept original works of art, slides, or photographs, nor do we assume responsibility for any materials submitted. Please send it to:

Q: Is it possible to contact artists at the Museum of Arts and Design?
A: Museum staff members are not permitted to give out artists’ addresses or phone numbers. Artists should be contacted through their galleries. To learn more about an artist in the Museum's exhibition or collection you may send your inquiry to:

Q: Do you provide docent-led tours for exhibitions and if so when are they?
A: We provide FREE docent-led tours daily at 11:30 pm and 3:00 pm and Thurs. evenings at 6:30 pm when the Museum is open to the public. Groups may pre-arrange a private guided tour by calling the Education Department at 212.299.7727, for details please see our Tours section.

Q: Do I have to make reservations for programs?
A: Generally no - however registration is required for some public programs, including lectures, courses, and symposia, as well as educator, family, and youth programs. For general information about particular programs, i.e., family, youth, school, and adult public programs, please go to the Public Programs section, or call the Education Department at 212.299.7727.

Q: Is sketching permitted in the galleries?
A: Sketching is permitted only in pencil and only on paper that is 11" x 14" or smaller.  No easels are permitted.

Q: Are strollers and luggage allowed on the gallery floors? Is there a place to check such things?
A: Only umbrella-style strollers can be accommodated on the gallery floors. Luggage is not permitted on the gallery floors and cannot be held.  Backpacks, umbrellas, large bags and large strollers must be checked in at the coat check on the Theater (T) level.  All bags are subject to inspection.
