Docent
From the Latin, docere, “to teach.”
MAD docents are an important extension of the Museum’s educational outreach. Welcoming and guiding museum visitors through the exhibitions is a gratifying way to make a contribution to the community. YOU ARE NEEDED!
Volunteer educators at the Museum of Arts & Design assist museum visitors in developing an understanding and appreciation of contemporary craft within the context of current exhibitions. Educators will conduct learning experiences that impart information about the artists, their materials and techniques, and the craft process to museum visitors. Docents are the “voices” of the museum—educators and representatives for relating exhibitions to the public. Docents encourage others to actively participate in the learning process of encountering and enjoying craft objects.
MAD is looking for volunteers interested in the 5 basic media of focus at the museum—wood, glass, metal, ceramic, and fiber—and the various studio techniques that relate. Docents should have a personal enjoyment of the arts and the craft process, as well as an interest in sharing that enjoyment with children and adult visitors alike.
