The Education Department at the Museum of Arts and Design builds bridges between the Museum, New York City and international community through mutually beneficial, sustainable partnerships.
Our goal is to create learning opportunities in outreach locations as well as within the Museum through collaborations with numerous arts, cultural, civic and social organizations, as well as schools and other educational institutions. We continue to cultivate our current strong partnerships and seek out those partnerships that, when resources combine, maximize the effectiveness of our educational outreach initiatives.
The Museum also serves as a gathering point for groups and organizations that have goals similar to our own, but lack the space or resources for public presentations and meetings. In our new location at 2 Columbus Circle, our seminar room, auditorium and classroom facilities will become a hub for groups from the contemporary craft, art and design communities. MAD educational experiences for all these constituents emphasize the importance of ‘making,’ the understanding of creative process and the building of visual literacy skills.
Partners in programming for school, youth, families and teachers include the following organizations:
Lincoln Center Institute, Center for Architecture, Center for Arts Education, Young Audiences/New York, Exploring, Central Park Conservancy, American Place Theatre, Materials for the Arts, Cool Culture, Brooklyn Museum, Art Beyond Sight, Girl Scouts of the USA, The Family Center, The Pilgriamge Foundation, NYC Department of Education, New York Department of Parks and Recreation, Design21, Bank Street College of Education, Brooklyn College, NY State School Board of Education, United Federation of Teachers
