Through educational outreach, the Museum education team shares its expertise in using museum exhibits and artwork in conjunction with children’s literature and everyday objects to teach young children.
Hands-on experiences including working with clay, wood construction, fiber collage, and recycled art projects, visits to the galleries and reading art-related age-appropriate books, this weekly program helps children develop sorting, classification, observation, and analytic skills and introduces them at a young age to the magic of museums and their collections.
Developed in close collaboration with and under the advisement of local early childhood specialists and taught by experienced artist educators, these weekly workshops help young children develop skills which include hand-to-eye coordination, shape, symbol and pattern recognition (pre-literacy skills), color recognition, fine motor control, as well as creativity and self-expression.
Programs take place on Tuesdays from 2-4pm starting in January 2009. $25 for adult with one child; $35 for adult with 2 children.
Reservations required. Space is limited (maximum 15 people per session).
